Optimization

Overview

MAAK has developed systems and tools (MTG_opt© and MTG_pred©) for optimizing operations for small and large-scale facilities. MAAK engineers can assist their clients with the application of these technologies and developing optimization solutions and systems specific to their needs. MAAK can also aid in the integration of these optimizers into an existing process control and/or data management system.

Variable Speed Pumping

MAAK has developed and implemented methods to optimize variable speed pumping with regards to pump efficiency. This approach maintains overall efficiencies in the midst of large changes in, for example, a pumping station’s suction pressure.

Energy Management

  • On-line monitoring of energy rates (hydro, gas)
  • Monitoring of energy consumption and demand peaks, with load management
  • Switching automatically (with advisement) to different sources of energy
  • Usage costs for plant water, city water, purified water, gas, hydro, etc.
  • Modeling techniques for energy (cost) minimization, using forecasted load patterns

    Operations Optimization

    Using MTG_opt©, large scale water system operations can be optimized with respect to cost of operations. The tool takes into account variable and changing energy rates.

    Predictive control

    Using MTG_pred©, operating and maintenance costs can be reduced. For large pumping stations, payback can be less than a year.
